Following the success of Taylor Swift's pop-country, I sense a growing demand for a similar yet contrasting female country artist who brings country back to its earthy, witty roots. Kacey Musgraves is leading the race to fill this role, and she is well qualified. She has written songs for Miranda Lambert and the TV show Nashville, and was nominated for four ACM awards this year. Although I've seen her on radio playlists and in the Billboard chart for about a year, I chose to write about her now as this month she played a London gig, which got a great review from The Guardian, and performed on The Ellen Show.
