I've been keeping an eye on teen singer Ryan Beatty for over a year, planning to feature him when he inevitably signed a major record deal. He has 31 million YouTube views and 600,000 Facebook fans and yet, he remains unsigned. With numbers like that, this must mean his management team (radio host DJ Skee and radio exec Gary Bernstein) are intentionally aiming to break him outside the label system. It could be that the labels wanted to make him a new Justin Bieber, as his new single Chameleon is quite a different direction. It's surprisingly grown-up and alternative, co-written with Lissie, Julian Emery and Jim Irvin. Ryan's poppy 2012 EP topped the iTunes pop chart, so I'm curious to see how the new music compares.
