Syco have made a rare non-X Factor/Britain’s Got Talent signing with Marlon Roudette, a British artist who has already achieved success across Europe. Marlon is the son of producer Cameron McVey (who went on to marry Neneh Cherry) and you might remember his previous group Mattafix, who had a top 20 hit with Big City Life in 2005. He also co-wrote songs for Siobhán Donaghy’s brilliant Revolution In Me album. He went solo in 2011 and had a Euro hit with New Age, but it didn’t work in the UK. His new single When The Beat Drops Out has been top 5 in five European countries so far. I think it’s much better than New Age, so I can understand why Syco are on board. However, the last international hit they signed, Ai Se Eu Te Pego by Michel Telo, flopped in the UK, so their backing certainly isn't enough to ensure success on its own.
