For this week’s Future Hits playlist, I want your opinions: Will these new singles be as big for the artists as the huge hits they’re following?

Tracklisting:

  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton – Can’t Hold Us
  • The Saturdays – Gentleman
  • Bastille – Laura Palmer
  • Disclosure ft. Eliza Doolittle – You and Me
  • PSY – Gentleman

This week marks a year since the very first Future Pop mailer! In that time many of the artists, including Conor Maynard, Rita Ora, fun. and Carly Rae Jepsen, have become major chart stars, while others are currently speeding along to the highway to success. Here’s an update on their progress…

  • Gabrielle Aplin is currently riding high on iTunes with her cover of The Power of Love, featured in the 2012 John Lewis Christmas advert.
  • The Neighbourhood play their first UK gig this week. I’m very excited!
  • Haim signed to Polydor and are working on their debut album, which will be preceded by new single Don’t Save Me, their poppiest yet.
  • Loreen went on to win Eurovision, and had a hit all over Europe with Euphoria. Highlight of the musical year for me!
  • Azealia Banks led a new surge of female rappers, and performed in an aquarium. She may as well retire now, what else is left to achieve?

  • Icona Pop were deservedly saved from the dumper by Atlantic/Big Beat, who signed them after they were dropped from Mercury, and they just released a new EP.
  • Naughty Boy recently hit the top 10 with his single Wonder, featuring Emeli Sandé.
  • Angel also had a top 10 hit with a similarly named track, Wonderful, and appears on a new single for Children In Need with Stooshe and Fazer.
  • Jake Bugg had a no.1 album, but I regretted featuring him in Future Pop after he turned out to be a bit of an idiot.
  • Sam Adams is featured on the new single Finally Found You by Enrique Iglesias, and recently performed on 90210.

  • After American Idol, Jessica Sanchez signed to Interscope, featured on a new song Jump In by apl.de.ap and won a part on Glee. Yay! Preview one of her new album tracks Fairytale here.
  • Two Future Pop artists are soon to release a song together, L Marshall (who is now signed to Mercury) and Little Nikki.
  • Madeon is working with Lady Gaga on music for her new album, and I have decided he is my future husband (when he’s old enough) after reading this interview.
  • X Factor alumni Misha B and Amelia Lily both hit the top 10, but didn’t do as well as Little Mix or their mentor Tulisa, who both debuted at no.1.
  • Sam and the Womp and PSY also reached no.1 with their debut singles, but like Tulisa may have difficulty staying at the top. Can they be more than one hit wonders?

Wondering who will be the first Korean pop act to have a worldwide hit has been a hot topic of conversation among K-pop fans, but few would have guessed it would be PSY. He's a rapper whose single Gangnam Style has been no. 1 for five weeks in Korea, and the amusing video and dance routine have gone viral even outside of K-pop's large fan community. The new king of one hit wonders (and a likely candidate for "the next Simon Cowell"), Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun, signed PSY to a joint deal with his label Schoolboy and Universal Republic last week, and since then he's appeared on the VMAs and even been played on Radio 1!
