With six members, a mix of boys and girls, and a jolly indie-pop sound, you could call Sheppard the Australian Alphabeat. While their music might appeal to Alphabeat fans, I’d say their sound is more McFly-meets-Mumfords-meets-The Kooks. They make a folky brand of pop with strong melodies and uplifting, creative music videos – the video for their new single Geronimo is particularly great and totally brings the song to life. Geronimo is their first big hit, an Aussie no.1 for three weeks, but they first attracted attention with their 2013 song, Let Me Down Easy. The group set up their own record label Empire of Song, and refuse to sign to a major label in Australia, but internationally they’ve accepted a helping hand from Decca. Their debut album Bombs Away (named after the best line from Geronimo) is out in Australia next month. There's no confirmation of a UK release yet, but with the label in place it shouldn't be too far away.
